The core aim of our project was to provide access to Green Skills within the area of Retro Fit technology to adult career changers and to develop enhanced awareness and practical skills for 16–18-year-olds through the creation of Retro Fit Lab.
This is a growth area with skills that are going to be in high demand across the UK. The Retro Fit Lab compliments our existing curriculum in our Low-carbon Lab. Learners will receive training on the latest Retro Fit technologies with many following courses that have been co-designed and – in some cases – delivered with industry leading to a licence to practise.
Our fulltime construction and engineering learners will complete short courses that introduce them to the concepts of Net Zero, and modern practises for energy reduction, insulation and heating systems.
Our staff will benefit from focused CPD that will upskill and build on their existing skills and knowledge, which will be completed in conjunction with formal qualifications and input from industrial specialists. Collaborating with partners to share best practice and resources is embedded throughout the Green Skill curriculum.
We have purchased and developed a new curriculum that will enable hybrid delivery, not only within the CLF partnership, but with industry. Learners will also be able to access the training virtually when convenient to them via our training site.
We are planning to have the new Lab completed for September 24, with the construction staff undergoing training in July 24 and CPD from Sept 24.
New for 24-25, all Construction students will receive training in the Lab with course content blended into their main programmes and the short courses upskilling adults – via Boot Camps etc. – becoming the preferred route to employment.
